I have wanted to blog about the phenomenom that Twitter has become. I have used twitter about for two years; offcourse I had a slow start — there was few users and it was very had to meet new ones. But with time, the community grew; and it was very niche-based driven — mostly bloggers, tech guru’s, and one that other social-media addicted junkie. With time it grew to be that some companies went corporative, and would drive information through Twitter; this allowed for real quick PR things to get done, and correct any mistake that could have occured in the media, for bloggers to easily pick up and spread through their posts. (Click for the video) With time, and for some unforseen reason (completely attaching to the sentiment of Facebook and its main page switch to a very similar like Twitter interface) Twitter started increasing heavily on the new users. According to the difussion theory, the people currently joining onto Twitter, are the people who were impacted by the saavy-technology first; also reffered to as the early-adaptors. Now, the late adoptors, are coming into the new medium, and finally feeling it does relate to them. They have cast aside their prejudice of What use could this possibly have?, to updating from their mobile phones, computers, text messages, etc. their 140 character way of looking at the world. Twitter has become the new social media sensation, regardless of how long it has been out there. Although, it has not found a valuable way to monetize itself — although it has announced that it will start having executive accounts, and more professional accounts — this goes to proove that the way of doing business has change. The consumer no longer reacts to a price incentive, but rather a lack of it, and has focused itself to be mainly driven by the experience of a service, or the status-quo of a product. This will have a great impact on all markets, the first ones to be hit are those of entertainment; why would people buy newspapers, if they can read them online, or read blogs? why would people buy music, if they can stream any song or artists they want live? why would people pay for a service that can be immitated by an open community? The result of open communities, means, the open-standards for which we access information, and information reaches us. Can you feel the Web 3.0 tickling our feet? Can you feel change coming? By the way , you can follow me on twitter; @sebarod.
